How travelling saved my life
What happens when the life you built no longer feels like your own?
How Traveling Saved My Life is a deeply personal story about loss, identity, and the courage it takes to begin again. When a decades-long marriage came to an unexpected end, Fabian Cousley found himself not just heartbroken—but untethered. The roles that once defined him were gone, and the future felt uncertain.
What followed wasn’t just a journey across countries—it was a journey inward.
Blending honesty, reflection, and hard-earned insight, this book explores how movement can create clarity, how distance can restore perspective, and how stepping outside your comfort zone can help you reconnect with who you truly are.
This isn’t just a story about divorce.
It’s about rebuilding after any life-altering change.
It’s about rediscovering purpose.
And it’s about finding strength in places you never expected.
If you’ve ever felt lost, stuck, or unsure of who you are after life shifts beneath your feet, this book offers something simple but powerful:
You are not alone.
And starting over doesn’t mean starting from nothing.
why I wrote
this book?
This Book Wasn’t Planned. It Was Necessary. I didn’t write this because life was going great. I wrote it because everything fell apart — and standing still wasn’t an option. When my marriage ended, my identity went with it. Husband. Father. Provider. Planner.
Gone — almost overnight. So I did the only thing that made sense at the time.
I travelled.
Planes became pause buttons. New places became mirrors. Distance gave me perspective when staying put was slowly suffocating me. This isn’t a travel book it’s a survival story wrapped in movement. It’s about rebuilding after betrayal. About fatherhood when your family looks different. About masculinity, loss, humor, failure, healing and finding yourself again when the life you built disappears.
No filters.
No pretending.
No neat answers.
Just real moments, hard lessons, and the reminder that sometimes the road forward isn’t about escape it’s about coming back to yourself. For anyone who’s broken… but still breathing. This might be the reset you didn’t know you needed.
